Catching Up On Election News
Last weekend I went to the Reggae on the River Festival. After being gone for four days, I have not yet caught up on all topics in the WDNC queue. A few stray notes...
- The last post before I left was called Legal Challenges to Election Conditions From Coast to Coast. That piece has now popped up on OpEdNews.com and the website of CA State Senator and Secretary of State Candidate Debra Bowen.
- On Tuesday, VoteTrustUSA reported that plaintiffs in the Holder v McPherson lawsuit (.pdf) have filed for an injunction against buying or using Diebold Accuvote TSx touch screen voting machines in CA for the November 2006 general election.
- This week's Arcata Eye reports on the Vote-PAD certification fiasco. The article quotes only Humboldt Registrar Carolyn Crnich and County Elections Manager Lindsey McWilliams (both sides of the story). While there is context I would like to have added, or seen included via quotes from others on the citizens' Election Advisory Committee, overall the point made is that the Secretary of State's Office Engaged In Smear Campaign Against Vote-PAD (BradBlog - be sure to read comments following the article).
- I recently wrote about the Open Voting Foundation's report on one of the worst voting machine security failures yet found. At Huffington Post, Marty Kaplan has put together a very brief video to demonstrate how any voter could exploit this flaw with only a Phillips head screwdriver and a common portable flash drive.
- Finally, Diebold is the subject of an SEC investigation, according to Reuters, CantonRep.com, and VoteTrustUSA.
